In collaboration with Julie Grindland Sørensen and Iris Elmkvist Trana, creating Kuriøs Studio.
KURIØS want to develop interior products that will create positive repercussions, through pleasing aesthetics and user appreciation. The vision for the products is also to carry a larger message. This is achieved through structured and vivid design processes which begins with a thorough research phase to fully understand the user. This includes interviews, observations, literature and empathy experiences. The problem definition of their bachelor thesis is “How can a piece of furniture be designed to create a pleasant experience of a pause in everyday life?”.
A day can often be filled with stress, time-squeeze and pressure from social media. We strive to keep ourselves updated and be a part of everything happening around us. It is expected that we are available to be reached at all times. The busy everyday life consumes time, time we use stressing to complete everything instead of doing what we really want. It is easy to forget the importance of a pause, to feel present.
JOMO is a chair designed to create a pleasant pause experience in everyday life. The chair is named after the term Joy of Missing Out, which is a counter reaction to the antonym “FOMO” or “Fear of Missing Out” a term abounding in social media. JOMO is created to embrace the here and now and to feel presence, joy and relaxation - an interaction between human and product. As humans we are complex beings. It is therefore essential that the experience of the product can be customized based on the preferences of the users. Even one person may need different types of breaks from day to day. Therefore the chair allows two ways of use, as well as many sitting positions. It can either stay still or be flipped into a “rocking chair”! The chair meets the needs of various kinds of pauses, whether one need an active, a calm, zoned or shared experience. It is also suitable for different types of environments; at home, in the public space or as outdoor furniture.
We all need to slow down sometimes, even if it is just for five minutes. Why not do it with JOMO (Joy of Missing Out)?
