WHY:
A mask is usually for hiding your own face or to pretend to be someone you are not. It covers your most distinctive features, which gives the person interacting with you a false picture of what you look like. It might be disturbing to some. It might be considered as fake or even scary. Someone will simply love your mask and think it is fun. But whatever feeling or reaction it makes; the great thing about a mask is what hides behind it, it's you.

HOW:
It is made by hand, and with the use of different hand-building techniques like pinch, coil, slab, layers and engraving. It was carefully created out from realistic measurements and with the shrinking of the clay in mind. The colors are also made to be as realistic as possible, yet the eyes never made the same standards. There is something about eyes which makes or breaks the realistic outcome of a piece. So, I left them to be interpreted.
WHAT:
This is a project I did back when I was an exchange student in Apopka, Florida. One of my electives was pottery and this was my first meeting with ceramic art and design, and clay as a creative outlet. It was so much fun to be in Mr. Cox’s classroom, and he helped me develop and unfold my skills in this expressive material.
